Digital citizenship is knowing what is appropriate when using technology and always doing it.
Why is Digital Citizenship important?
I teach fifth grade students and digital citizenship is an idea that really needs to be covered more in depth and discussed. Our students are able to bring their own devices (BYOD) into school and if they have had a great week they are rewarded on Friday during lunch with the chance to listen to music or play games. The catch is it has to be appropriate. Surprisingly enough, this very simple word can be misconstrued many different ways. What they see as appropriate is undoubtedly different than what I view as appropriate. So how do we clarify? We discuss digital citizenship. A digital citizen is one who acts responsibility and appropriately. My answer to their questions is always, "Would I be proud if I saw you doing/listening to it?"
