This cartoon may be funny, but it also has an important message. As a digital citizen it is your responsibility to make sure that what you put on the internet is appropriate. But how do you know what is appropriate? What exactly are your responsibilities as a digital citizen?
First, let's start off with a short video on the basics of digital safety. This is going to give you an understanding of what is appropriate to put online and what isn't. As this video states, it isn't smart to post about an upcoming vacation. All this does is alert a criminal to your plans and will leave you susceptible to a crime.

Digital Rights:
- Freedom of Speech
- Privacy
- Access digital computers, devices and media
- Create media
Digital Responsibilities:
- Keep your personal identity safe from theft
- Watch / download music, videos, movies, etc. LEGALLY
- Report any harassment, bullying, or theft of identity
- Follow copyright laws and cite all work properly
- Respect others privacy and ideas expressed

An important thing to remember as an educator or other professional, is that it is up to you to educate your students or staff about Digital Rights and Responsibilities. While some things seem very common sense, it is dangerous to assume they know all there is to know. As an educator of students living in a digital world, one of the most common issues is unfortunately cyber bullying. This terrible issues is constantly at center stage, with reports on evening news stations all over the nation of cases of suicide or attacks resulting from students being cyber bullied. This issue needs to be discussed in schools and institutions openly so students will understand harm done by bullying another online.
